What days and times do you offer tutoring?

Monday to Thursday, first lesson starts at 3.30pm and last lesson starts at 6.30pm.  I also offer some early morning sessions at 7am.

If you are a home school student, then lessons can be offered at different times, starting at 9am.

How long are the lessons?

All lessons are one hour in length.

Which years do you cater for?

Maths: Year 5 to year 12. Although I have taught prep to year 4 students before, I have decided to focus on students in grade 5 and up starting in 2022.

Do you offer online lessons?

Yes, currently all my lessons are online. If this changes in the future I will update the website.

Do you use computers?

Depending on the year your child is in, a combination of teaching aids will be used, including educational software on computers.  There will also be different teaching aids to assist understanding of concepts.  Students will be encouraged in each lesson to do some form of writing practice.

Is it one on one?

Each student receives individual help explaining new concepts as well as any work they don’t understand.  Students will be encouraged to attempt questions on their own once they grasp a concept.

What is your tutor to student ratio?

I try to keep the number of students per session low to maintain the concept of a boutique tuition centre.  In most cases there will be a max of 2 students per session.

What does a lesson cost?

Rates very depending on grade level as well as one on one vs 2 students in an hour. Please contact me to discuss specific rates for your child.

Are you able to OFFER A LESSON WITH ONLY ONE STUDENT PER SESSION?

Yes, if your child needs more attention and/or is in grade 11/12, and you would prefer a lesson with your child as the only student, please contact me for the hourly rate.

What if my child can't attend a lesson due to illness?

If you let us know before the lesson, we will offer a make-up lesson at a time that we have space during the current term.

What makes you different from a large tutoring centre?

The fact that I am a small, boutique tutoring centre gives me the ability to provide your child with the individual attention they need.  I’m not restricted by using specific teaching software, and can use appropriate educational tools (computer based or not) for each student. I teach all the students myself.

Are you able to contact my child’s teacher?

If your child's teacher is happy to discuss his/her needs and progress with us, we would be happy to contact them, or be contacted by them.

Are you open on student free days and public holidays?

We are open on student free days, and lessons run as usual, but we are closed on public holidays.

How many lessons will my child need?

Most students come for one lesson per week.  Students are enrolled on a term by term basis.

What if my child has very low confidence?

Usually most students who come for tutoring have low confidence.  Our approach is friendly, helpful, caring and fun!  In most cases, the first change you will notice in your child is that of more confidence.

Do you help with school homework?

I am happy to help with homework if that is what you would like me to do in the lesson.  If I notice concepts that your child doesn’t understand, I will raise and discuss these with you.  I do believe that eventually students should become independent learners and attempt to complete their homework on their own.

Do you give homework?

I will usually give some homework to primary school students each week to consolidate what was learnt in the lesson.  As in anything, practice makes perfect, so I would encourage homework to be done for best results.  High school students may be given homework, but it’s important that they complete their school homework. I try to encourage high school students to review as much as possible so that they are able to retain the information longer term.
